Colorful urban Washington DC wedding at Crispus Attucks Park and Big Bear Cafe
I love all my clients… but sometimes the stars align and things get really special. That’s Lauren + Peter! They came to me through another of my favorite past couples, Karen + Matt. They joke that they met the old fashioned way… through OK Cupid. 😂 All I can do is laugh and laugh as a still-single gal who’s had to learn how to “swipe,” and who sees far too many groomsmen photos I myself have taken crossing the screen of my app. The couple met in October 2014, and got engaged a little over two years later. Fast forward to their wedding day, and these two introverts (another reason I love them!) hosted a heavily local-DC wedding day, right down to the DC flag-themed coasters that were their favors!
Lauren got ready downtown at the Hotel Monaco (with my favorite gal, the talented Rachel Lane, helping her perfect her wedding day pixie look!) As we headed across town, Lauren hadn’t wanted a “first look” moment, but at the last moment made a game-time decision to do one after all, and it was one of the sweetest moments I’ve documented in a long time. The couple hosted a perfect ceremony in the treasured neighborhood Crispus Attucks Park, replete with a ribbon cheer tunnel after the ceremony was over. We had a little rain scare from a summer thunderstorm right before the ceremony, but as things do when they’re meant to, everything worked itself out and we even had a moment of rainbow as the ceremony was coming to a close. From the park, L+P led their guests on a parade walk the six or so blocks to the quintessentially-DC Big Bear Cafe, where I’d always wanted to photograph a wedding! After cocktails and dinner al fresco, we kicked off the dance party with cake from Milkbar and cobbler from Big Bear, then put on our dancing shoes and partied late into the night!
