As someone without a particularly big or particularly close family, I always love and am fascinated when my couples have a wedding day that pulls in dozens of relatives from all over the world. To have cousins you’re close to! Who will travel to celebrate you from far away! Anya + Noah’s family and friends traveled from literally across the globe to celebrate the wedding of these two beautiful people in May at Mount Airy Mansion in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Noah is a self-described history nerd, which made their choice of venue, Mount Airy Mansion, all that much more perfect. The mansion was built in colonial times as the family home for Lord Calvin — and in 1774, Eleanor Calvert married John Parke Custis (yes! I’m a descendent!), the adopted son of George Washington — on the property. (When we put these pieces together at Anya + Noah’s consult, we might’ve gotten a little excited. History and family history are cool!) 244 years later, Anya + Noah’s wedding day was filled with the most beautiful personal and handmade details… including a super-personal moment in their ceremony where everyone joined hands to be a ‘raft’ for the couple — a support system used by otters, which have a special significance for the bride. There was so much to love on this gorgeous wedding day, and even the threat of wet weather driving the ceremony inside couldn’t dampen the day’s spirits!
Warmest thank yous to everyone who helped make this a remarkably perfect day!
