A FULL WEEKEND GETAWAY AT A RETREAT WITH MEANING FOR TWO LGBTQ+ ADVOCATES

When I sat down with Chris + Chris in January 2020 to talk wedding photography, it was immediately clear that I wanted to work with these two men: they are so special. Chris C. served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Originally a Bluegrass musician, he came to DC in 1999 for law school, and found himself right at home as an activist. Chris R. grew up in Louisiana, and—like me—made his way to DC in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He is likewise an advocate and activist. The connection between the two of them was so strong, even in the first minutes we spent together.

When it came to their wedding, they planned a big shindig to have all of their friends in one place, at one of their very favorite places: The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, which they go back to every year. From the very beginning, these two put their entire trust in us, and told me they wanted us to “do you, and feel free to be creative.” Talk about a blessing. From the moment we accepted their commission, I knew I would do everything I could, and bring all the expertise I have, to giving these two all the support they needed to bring their wedding dreams to fruition—and then beautifully document every single thing that was important to them about the day.
